5 Rules of Selling

Ever find yourself doubting your ability to sell? Maybe you’ve thought things like, “There’s already someone doing it,” or “I don’t have enough engagement,” or the classic, “What if no one buys from me?” These thoughts lead to frustration and eventually cause you to think, “I’ll just stop promoting and selling altogether.” But here’s the reality: that mindset is holding you back!

Selling is an essential skill, whether you’re an entrepreneur, a coach, or someone trying to grow their personal brand. And I’m here to help you master it!

Read on to learn the 5 rules of selling that will help shift your perspective and elevate your sales game:

1. Create From Originality

Forget about blending in with what’s already out there. Instead of over-consuming what everyone else is doing, over-connect with your audience. Pay attention to what your people are telling you.

  • What do they want?

  • What challenges are they facing?

  • What patterns or recurring issues are you noticing?

When you’re able to tune into these questions and truly listen to your audience, you’re able to create solutions from a place of originality. People crave authenticity. So, be the one who delivers what they need—not just what’s trending.

2. Keep It Simple

Sales don’t have to be complicated. Set a clear goal and align everything you do with that target. Break your process down into actionable steps and focus on delivering exceptional results.

Here’s the key: Stop overthinking and start acting. Move with momentum and let that guide you forward, rather than getting stuck in “What if no one buys?” scenarios. When you simplify, you can focus on what really matters—connecting and converting!

3. Communicate With Clarity

One common mistake? Making your audience guess what you’re offering. Don’t fall into this trap. Communicate clearly:

  • What is it you’re selling?

  • Why is it beneficial?

  • Who is it for?

  • How will it change their life or business?

Get specific and straightforward, so there’s no ambiguity. People should instantly understand what you’re offering and be able to visualize the results they’ll achieve. When you remove confusion, you pave the way for conversions.

4. Make It Easy to Say Yes

Before pitching, make sure you truly know your audience. If your offer is misaligned with their needs, saying “yes” becomes a challenge. Monitor your progress, keep track of conversions, and watch how your audience is engaging.

Be proactive and flexible. Adjust your strategies based on what’s working and what’s not. The easier you make it for people to see your offer as the perfect fit, the more natural those “yes” responses will become.

5. Bring the Energy!

This might be the most important rule of all: Bring the energy! If you’re not excited about your offer, how can you expect anyone else to be? Show up with passion and confidence. If someone says no, don’t let that throw you off your game. If someone ghosts you, move on.

Your excitement is contagious, so let it shine through every interaction. Keep the momentum high, even when things don’t go exactly as planned. Trust that there are more potential clients out there who need what you have to offer.

Bonus Rule: Understand Your Selling Purpose

Your goal in selling isn’t just to make the sale. It’s to show up as a guide for those who are ready to take the next step. Your purpose should be to provide solutions that make an impact—not to come from a place of desperation or fear. Lead by example and demonstrate what’s possible when people commit to change.

Remember, success in sales comes from confidence and clarity. Don’t sell what you haven’t personally experienced or achieved. When you sell from a place of knowing and experience, you remain authentic to your calling.
